This book is an illustrated history of the philatelic invention that took place in the United States between 1861 and 1881 in the search for a postage stamp that could only be used once.
This book focusses on known essays for postage stamps. It doesn’t include patents for which there are no known essays. It also excludes patents for other kinds of securities. There are revenue essays in the book, for example, Loewenberg’s decals, but only when they were produced in addition to essays for postage stamps.
